Is KERDI waterproof?
Is KERDI waterproof?
Schluter®-KERDI is a pliable, sheet-applied, bonded waterproof membrane and vapor retarder with limited crack-bridging capabilities.
Can KERDI membrane be installed over plywood?
Since thin-set mortar works over almost any substrate, the Kerdi system can be used over drywall, plywood, or the various cement boards mentioned above.
Can Schluter Kerdi be installed over drywall?
Yes. Once you install KERDI over the drywall panels, they will be completely protected from the water and vapor in your tiled shower.
What type of thinset do I use for KERDI?
Schluter SET™, ALL-SET™, FAST-SET™ or an unmodified thin-set mortar must be used to construct all KERDI seams to ensure watertightperformance of the system.
Is the KERDI system good?
Great product. It takes a little longer than the traditional mud shower bed and water-proofing methods, but it is worth it. Took my old shower down to the studs and completely rebuilt it with DuraRock and then the Schluter Kerdi Shower Kit and 12×16″ tiles.
Can Kerdi be used on floors?
The material is equally suitable for creating level substrates in floor renovation projects e.g. residential bathroom installations designed for foot traffic. Schlüter®-KERDI-BOARD is simply cut to size with a utility knife. The gridlines printed on the surface are helpful for neat and quick installation.
What Thinset do I use with KERDI?
What happens if you use modified thinset on KERDI?
Modified thinset mortars aren’t recommended for use with Kerdi because they must dry out to gain strength, whereas the membrane inhibits drying, which can lead to unpredictable results. For example, if a shower is used before the mortar has cured properly, leaks and polymer leaching can occur.
Will thinset stick to Kerdi fix?
Kerdi fix does not stick to thin-set FYI. So if you pre-treated the backs you just ruined the corner.
